A YOUNG first-aid group is under threat because it cannot find a leader.
Longridge St John Ambulance Badgers, formed more than ten years ago, may have to fold if someone is not found soon.
The group has around 15 boys and girls aged between six and ten. Meetings in the Old Station building, off Berry Lane, are supervised by Anne Lewis and Maureen Hartley, but Anne is leaving in two weeks. Maureen has been a leader for three years though is herself thinking about leaving in summer after her daughter, Jennifer, 10, goes on to join the St John Ambulance cadets.
The mother said: "Safety regulations mean there has to be at least two adults supervising. Hopefully the parents will come forward to help out, perhaps on a rota. All we need is for another adult They do not need qualifications, just a caring and good character."
She said leaders usually took a short first-aid course.
The group works towards gaining nine badges in disciplines including first aid, communication, social activities and hobbies, leading to a "super badge". After age ten many members go on to become cadets.
Anyone who can spare an hour-and-a-half on Thursdays from 6.30pm (term time only) can contact Mrs Hartley on 01772 782993, or Mrs Lewis on 01772 785542.
