BLACKBURN Harriers have three stars high in the rankings.
Andrew Lake is 18th in the long jump with 5.95m, but he has also gained a Grade 1 standard in the high jump and a Grade 2 in the hurdles.
He was the Lancashire Champion in both high jump and hurdles which gained him selection for the Northern Inter Counties where Lancashire were the winning team.
Rob Barton has just been awarded a scholarship from Farley's Solicitors. Each year the company helps two St Mary's College pupils, and this year Rob will share the honour with swimmer Rebecca Wrigley. It is tangible recognition of a superb season which has seen him reach eighth in the under 20's 1500m with a run of 3:51 in the Wythenshawe Open Meeting. During the year he became the County Champion and produced an outstanding performance to win the silver medal in the English Schools Championships.
The third Blackburn Harrier to reach the rankings is Loughborough student Nick Samuels who makes the list for the first time in his career. Nick produced his best form in his biggest race of the season, the AAA's Championships at Bedford in August.
He finished fifth in the under 20's 5000m and his time of 15:19 was the 12th best in the country last year.
Representing Loughborough he made the final of the British University's Championship logging 15:29, and at Salford he lowered his PB for 10K to 32:10.
He is targeting the AAA's Championships again this year and hopes to crack the 15 minute barrier. Jennifer Tunstill runs for the area's smallest club, Park High School AC of Colne.
The club has a strong tradition in the 800m with Catherine Riley -- now with Trafford -- becoming the National Indoor Champion two years ago. Jennifer is a worthy successor being the Lancashire Schools Champion and the silver medallist in the Lancashire Championships.
She was also winner in the Northern Inter Counties match, and made the semi-finals of the English Schools Championships. She set her season's best time of 2:16.3 at an evening meeting at Trafford to make the under 17's list at number 28. This winter she is competing on the indoor circuit.
