Kirkholt 24 Haresfinch 20
BOOSTED by the welcome return of loose-forward Anthony Seabrook, Finch produced a good performance and were unlucky not to get at least a share of the points.
Kirkholt had the advantage of the elements in the first period and took the lead with a converted try but Finch hit back when Seabrook brushed off four attempted tackles to score under the sticks and convert his own try.
The home side replied with an unconverted try then Finch substitute Allan Barker made a 40-yard break to send the supporting Ian Derbyshire over for a try to make it 10-10 at the interval.
A disastrous start to the second half for Finch saw them concede three tries in quick succession.
The last quarter was all Finch though with second-row Gareth Brown and prop Ste Marsh making some great runs. And the visitors finally got the try they deserved when elusive stand-off Colin Rogers scored from a kick through by Seabrook. Then Finch scored the try of the match when Seabrook put winger Ste Ratcliffe away on 60-yard run to the line. Seabrook added the conversion but time ran out for Finch
The Franco's Wholesale Ltd. man-of-the-match was scrum-half Stuart Simmons with Anthony Seabrook taking the Fran's News best player and Gareth Brown, skipper Dave Penny and Colin Rogers also impressing.
