A POPULAR pub is looking as pretty as a picture after winning a £5,000 face-lift.
The 17th century Shireburn Arms at Hurst Green in the Ribble Valley is now adorned with colourful hanging baskets and new signs, after scooping the prize in a competition featured in the licensees' newsletter, John Smith News.
Villagers hope the pub revamp give them a better chance in the Lancashire best kept village competition.
Father and son George and Steve Alcock, the pub's two proprietors, said are delighted with the results.
George said: "The exterior of the pub now befits a rural setting. It has certainly enhanced the village. Locals have been commenting on how attractive the pub now looks."
The makeover was provided by Leeds firms SR Signs and Babylon Hanging Baskets.
Barry Menzer of SR Signs said: "Your pub exterior is one instance when you will be judged solely on appearances. You don't need the most attractive pub in the world, the key is knowing how to make the best of it. Signage, lighting and hanging baskets can make all the difference between customers who pass by or enter your establishment. The Shireburn is an attractive pub, but it is even more attractive now."
