A ST HELENS charity has come to the rescue of a local toddler who was in need of a new pram after breaking his leg.
When volunteers for the Helen Marie Friends charity heard of the plight of little Nathan Briers, they immediately came up with a £300 donation to help his family out.
Two-year-old Nathan, from Ennerdale Avenue, Clinkham Wood, has been unable to walk since breaking his leg almost two months ago. And worse was to come for parents, Karen and Neil when doctors who examined Nathan informed them that they had also detected a slight heart murmur.
Karen, who also has four daughters; Lisa (14), Helen (12), Lyndsey (nine) and six-year-old Jemma, told the Star: "Nathan was walking well but he slipped in church one day and broke one of his legs. It is healing now but he is still shuffling around and we needed a pram to help get him around. I think part of the problem is that Nathan is a bit worried about putting any weight on his leg but doctors have said he will do it in his own time.
"The heart murmur is obviously an added worry but he has got an appointment for an examination to check that next year so we won't know anything further until then."
She added: "I would like to say a big thank-you to Helen Marie Friends for their generous donation. We have been able to buy a pram with part of the money and used the rest to buy Nathan some toys and winter clothes."
