YOUNGSTERS have raised hundreds of pounds by paddling across Lake Windermere for a family support group based in Higher Folds.
The Leigh and Wigan Police Cadets raised £500 by a sponsored paddle across the massive lake in Cumbria for Agape.
Agape is a Greek word from the Bible which means 'love without strings,' and the group offers family support to anyone who needs it.
Group co-ordinator Margaret Catterall said they were "delighted" with the extra money.
"We are only a small charity and we don't have time to raise money ourselves so we were delighted when we heard about it, particularly because it was raised by young people. I believe the weather was very bad when they paddled across Lake Windermere. They made such a big effort to raise the money.
"We're going to spend the money on taking the children on lots of outings. They like visiting farms the most so we'll probably take them to the Community Farm on Mossley Common. We might take them to Blackpool Zoo. We would also like to take them on trips further afield now we have this money."
Mrs Catterall said Agape was a strong Christian group but added that all are welcome to come along. The group meets at Higher Fold Community Centre on Mondays and Thursdays and the playgroup meets on Tuesday afternoons. Anyone wishing to attend can ring 01942 261799.
