BLACKBURN Hawks hit the road to take on league leaders and reigning champions Billingham Eagles in the toughest of English League fixtures tomorrow.
The Hawks are currently fourth, but have games in hand on rivals Billingham (3), Kingston (2) and Altrincham.
Hawks' player-coach Bobby Haig said: "The Eagles are nine points ahead, but if we can win our games in hand it will make a big difference. They will be very tough to beat, but Altrincham held them to a 4-4 draw last week, so you never know."
Billingham are very experienced, boasting three 'imports' in their line-up, but recently lost their first choice goalkeeper, who has re-located to London for work."
"They have a young goalie now," said Haig. "He will either show his lack of experience, or play a blinder. Whatever happens, they will come at us strongly. We will have to defend deep and take our chances.
"I will be pleased with any kind of result from this one. We will give them respect, but not too much I hope. I don't think anyone has beaten them on their ice for about seven years."
Back in September, Billingham beat Haig's team 5-2 in the opening fixture of the league campaign. The Hawks are expected to be at full strength for what promises to be a difficult encounter.
On Sunday evening Perth Panthers visit the Arena for the annual challenge match with the Hawks. The action starts at 6pm.
Bobby Haig said: "Unfortunately, they have had a few injuries recently, I might end up playing for them yet. We look forward to this one, they are a great bunch of lads and we always enjoy the games."
