THE St Helens Primary Schools A team came from behind to snatch a dramatic victory over Skelmersadale in the quarter-final of the Barnett-Shieldhouse Cup.
Oliver Mitchell (St Peter's) gave St Helens a one-goal lead at half-time.
But injuries forced a re-shuffle after the break and Skelmersdale took full advantage, playing some good football and scoring twice in five minutes to take the lead.
With eight minutes remaining man-of-the-match Martin Seddon (Haydock English Martyrs) scrambled an equaliser and then with the clock ticking away the same player headed in a Martin Cox (Carr Mill) corner to give St Helens a 3-2 victory.
They now play Warrington in the semi-final.
The Primary B team travelled to Crosby to play a weakened A team and started well, taking a 1-0 lead through David Hilton (District).
And they looked set for a win until Crosby hit back with two second-half goals in a few minutes.
This was the B team's best defensive performance of the season and the narrow defeat was a bit harsh. Patrick McEgan (Longton Lane) was awarded man-of-the-match.
This week the B team represent St Helens in the Merseyside 7-a-side finals at Walton Hall Park, kick-off 10am, while the A team travel to Stoke.
