REGARDING your report about the new lease of life for the old Darwen Technical School building (LET, December 26), we, the 'Darwen Against Demolition' group fought a long, hard campaign to protect an important piece of our history. Thankfully, after six years we won the battle.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the people who supported the campaign, without whom we may have lost -- 7,500 people signed the petition, including supporters of many large organisations such as the Victorian and Civic societies.
Work has already commenced on The Old Tech, with many of it's fine features being restored. We are sure that once the refurbishment is complete, the new owners, Berbury International, should be very proud of a major scheme they have completed in Darwen.
The building will be a flagship for any organisation using it, sending a statement out, not just to Darwen but to the whole of the business world, both locally and nationally.
