I KNOW there are still 18 games to go, give or take the play-offs, but already I'm getting excited.

After the run of results we've had, this may surprise no-one -- except that I'm not talking about the forbidden 'P'-word.

Like the manager, I'm doing my level best to keep cool and saying 'the hard work is still to be done'. Looking at the tough run of fixtures we face between now and mid-March, he does have a point!

What I'm getting excited about is that small oblong package that is essential to survive the long summer months. That little box of sunshine that can brighten even the gloomiest June day.

I'm getting excited about the Rovers' season's highlights video. It's going to be a belter.

That's because whoever edits it will have the simplest of jobs. Edit in the purple passages when Rovers play like world-beaters, pouring forward like an irresistible blue and white tidal wave. Edit out the disjointed bits when we play like football novices, unable to control game, opposition, or ball.

Edit in most of the first half against Preston. Edit out most of the second.

Easy.

A little girl of my acquaintance used to ask her mother if she'd been a good girl, quickly adding 'forget about the naughty bits!'

Similarly with this Rovers team. Fans are now accustomed to not knowing which Rovers they're going to be watching from one minute to the next: the captivating, exhilarating one, or the frustrating, hair-tearing one.

They are a superb team -- if you forget about the naughty bits!

Anyone looking at this season's highlights video in years to come will be forgiven for envying the entertainment we enjoyed, week in, week out. The jinking brilliance of Jansen, the dazzling runs of Dunn and Duff, the blinding acceleration of Bent. And so on.

They'll be right too, but Saturday's win over Wednesday might just have marked a turning point. Bossing a game from start to finish hasn't been Rovers style this season -- until then. Now we know they can do it. Now we know they're ready to lock horns with the likes of Birmingham, Forest, Watford and Bolton -- our next four away encounters. And now we can't wait until Sunday at St Andrews.

One parting thought on the video: with two-thirds of the season gone, Craig Hignett's contribution to the season's highlights amounts to one, admittedly superb, free-kick.

The video should be great value. Still not sure about Higgy though.
