RAMSBOTTOM hot-shot Russell Brierley is looking for revenge against Clitheroe in the Worthington Challenge Trophy tonight.
The Blues have beaten Ramsbottom twice already this season, but on both occassions Ken Bridge's side thought they deserved something from the game.
Brierley, the NWCFL Division One player of the month for December, is hoping it will be third time lucky for his side.
"We felt both defeats were a bit harsh," said the former Radcliffe Borough and Cheadle striker.
"Both times it seemed we had a lot of the ball but couldn't put it away. The league is the priority but it would be good to get one over on them even if it is only a cup match."
The 27-year-old was named player of the month, after scoring five in four games, and was presented with his award before Saturday's game against Nantwich, which Ramsbottom won 2-0.
"I was away in Tenerife for a friend's wedding when it was announced but I happened to ring home while I was out there and my mum told me I'd won it.
"I scored in every game in December and I have got 18 in 23 games overall so things are going well."
Tottington-born Brierley scored 39 last season and picking up the NWCFL Division One player of the year award, but thinks this season could top that.
"We have done very well this season considering the injuries we have had," he said.
"If we can win our games in hand we would go third and I would expect us to be in the top three at the end of the season.
"The weather has affected so many games the league is false at the moment, but it will even itself out."
After four years at the Riverside, Brierley -- who's twin brother Warren also plays for the Rams but is currently sidelined with injury -- reckons this is the strongest Ramsbottom side he has played in.
"It has got better every years I have been here and this side is definitely the best I have seen here.
"There are probably four or five teams who have a realistic chance of winning the league this season and we are one of them."
Meanwhile, Bacup manager Brent Peter's has warned fans attending their Marsden Challenge Trophy first round replay against Skelmersdale at West View tonight to come equipped.
The game has already been postponed so many times that it was switched from Bacup to White Moss Park and when they eventually met last week, the game ended in a draw.
So they have to do it all again at NWCL Division Two side Bacup tonight where extra-time and penalties could finally bring this long-running saga to an end.
"Bring your packed lunch, a flask and a sleeping bag," joked Peters, whose side more than matched the Division One team on their home territory and is still ruing the last minute penalty miss which could have taken them through. Kick off is 8pm.
Also tonight, Darwen play host to Prescot Cables in the Worthington Challenge Trophy second round. Nelson travel to Holker in NWCFL Division Two and Rossendale are at home to Kidsgrove in Division One.
