Haydock 26 Farnworth 6
HAYDOCK returned to league action and put their Lancashire Cup final disappointment behind them to score a convincing win.
The home side dominated the early stages with forwards Reynolds, Bloor and Carroll running strongly.
After Speed had gone close, they opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Reynolds and P. Ireland paved the way for winger Tickle to go in at the corner.
And ten minutes later they increased their lead when Speed and Tickle combined with Reynolds for the latter to score another unconverted try.
Then straight from the kick-off Bloor and O'Garra sent Marsh racing 20 yards to score a good try converted by P. Ireland to make it 14-0 at the break.
Farnworth started the second half better and after 45 minutes they got on the scoresheet when a high kick rebounded off the crossbar and went straight into their winger's hands allowing to go over unopposed for a try which was converted to make it 14-6.
Despite this, the visitors never really threatened Haydock's superiority and on the hour mark the homesters restored their 14-point advantage when Hill put in a fine kick across the field which saw winger Tickle collect to score his second try, converted by P. Ireland.
It was all Haydock again now and after Ireland had added a penalty they scored their fifth and final try when a pass by Newton sent Bloor clear and the skipper did the rest from 50 yards out beating defenders to touch down.
Outstanding for Haydock were Reynolds, Speed, Bloor, Wade and P. Ireland.
