AN eight-month-old dog was pulled to safety after becoming stuck in ice after being thrown into a canal.
The animal, which is described as a black labrador cross, was rescued by firefighters from the canal bank at Bennington Road, Blackburn and has since found a new home at police kennels.
Station officer Kevin Gibson said: "We got the call it was stuck in ice but when we got there it had managed to free itself and was stuck on the canal bank.
"It was in a distressed state and we managed to capture it by putting a rope round it. We then handed it over to the police."
The dog will be taken to Aspen Valley boarding kennels, in Oswaldtwistle, if her owner is not found.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or anyone who may have lost a dog fitting this description to contact PC Nicola Furness on 01282 51212.
