YOUNGSTERS from schools in Blackburn were given time off from their lessons to attend and perform in an event at their local community centre.
The schoolchildren packed into Shadsworth Community Centre for the "Shad Day" which was organised to bring together all the different agencies working within the area.
Town crier Stuart Godbold joined in the entertainment, which included singing and dancing, and the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Jack Bury, enjoyed the event so much he stayed an extra half hour.
He said: "The spirit of the afternoon was to get everyone together instead of working separately and to make the best use of the resources available in the area.
"It was very enjoyable."
