AN ex-Manchester United youngster has rocked Preston North End's 'Apple-cart' following a shock transfer request.
The 25-year-old star midfielder Michael Appleton looks set to be on his way out of Deepdale this week following a £750,000 bid from mid-table pushers West Brom.
The youngster could join the Baggies in the next few days after Albion's offer was accepted by the North End board. Preston look set to cash in on Appleton rather than lose him for nothing on a Bosman transfer in the summer.
Salford-born Michael Appleton was bought from Manchester United in 1997 for a paltry £500,000.
The player's decision to leave North End opens up rumours of him being unhappy at Preston, even though he has enjoyed cult status by large sections of PNE fans.
In a statement, Preston North End said: "At this moment in time, the player is still in negotiations with West Brom.
"However, his transfer requests are deemed as 'excessive' by the West Brom board."
If Appleton cannot reach an agreement over personal terms, he will still be available for selection for Saturday's clash against Wolves.
