Scorpions A 23 Simms Cross A 52
THE Scorpions were 12-0 down after only 10 minutes, then a break by Andrew Dobson followed by another by Phil Webster who put his son Danny in for a try under the posts. Webster converted his own try.
Simms Cross scored another try from a Scorpions mistake but they faught back when Jason Talbot put Tony Green in a gap and he raced over from 30 metres to make the score 18-10.
Jim Bailey dropped a goal then the Scorpions defence went to sleep as they allowed the Widnes side to score 24 points in 11 minutes to lead 42-11.
The Scorpions then had their best spell and should have had more than the two tries they scored by Keith Slater and Paul Carmody, both converted by Danny Webster to pull the score back to 42-23.
But more defensive lapses allowed their opponents to score two more tries.
