LYTHAM Chess Club second team fought out an exciting draw in Division A against Preston seconds.
David Newton forced the drawn match with his team's only win, while Peter Jowett, John Cooper and Leo Ainsworth all drew.
Paul Horam beat Nick Ward for Preston's only victory.
The second team beat AXA by 3-1 with Newton again winning well, being joined by Kostas Domoras and Steve Willder.
The fourth team lost narrowly to Poulton fourth team; Kevin Thomas winning and Charles Cooper drawing.
The team's next match pitted them against the strong Cleveley's first team.
David Dawber and Peter Dirs both won exciting games which could have easily gone either way, and Pat Coleman held on for a draw which forced the team's success.
Slow progress is being made in the Club Championship with the most unexpected result to date being Len Gibbins' win against Doug Williams, rated the third best club player.
But the future looks bright for Lytham Chess Club with the good performances shown by the second tean and lower team players.
