Lytham Mens 3 Deeside Ramblers 0
LSA started their league campaign of 2001 with a convincing 3-0 victory over the high flyers from Deeside in Cheshire.
It was their best performance of the season with flowing hockey up front and resolute defence at the back, their win never looked in doubt.
The tone was set when the captain Richard McGee made a good interception releasing an early ball to Craig Nuttall who calmly beat at least three opponents before slamming the ball home from the circles edge.
More good hockey resulted in Dave Robbins adding a second with an equally impressive run before flicking the ball home. And all this time the centre backs Chris Kay and Mark Lees were playing superbly and the work rate of the whole team was impressive. Dave Robbins got the third goal after pouncing on a lose ball and pushing home from an acute angle.
Lytham 2nd XI 3 Wilmslow 3
WILMSLOW started the stronger and went ahead from a rather scrappy penalty corner.
But Lytham managed to equalise shortly after with a well taken goal by Richard Isherwood making a welcome return to league hockey.
That set the pattern of play for the rest of the game as LSA equalised three times after their opponents had taken the lead.
But the game could have been won in the dying minutes when John Langford was virtually rugby tackled, denied the penalty stroke, but managed to lay the ball off to Graham Stuart who missed a fine chance to win the game.
LSA 3rd XI also won 4-2 against Chetser IV's who had beaten them 8-0 earlier that season.
The 4th XI lost 2-2 to Oxton while the Badgers lost 4-0 to Bowdon
