Bank Quay Bulls 6 Scorpions 10
OUTSTANDING defence won this game for the Scorpions with full back Simon Pritchard the star man. He pulled off four last ditch tackles when it looked like the Warrington side were about to score.
The Bulls took the lead with a penalty as the Scorpions found it difficult to get out of their own half. It was Pritchard's heroic efforts which kept the Scorpions in the game.
Just when it looked like the Scorpions had weathered the storm and would go to the break 2-0 down, disaster struck a minute before half-time.
The Scorpions had the ball from the the tackle but the referee judged that they had knocked on. From the resulting scrum the Bulls scored a try to make it 6-0 at half-time.
The Scorpions looked a different side in the second half as they upped the tempo. After ten minutes they won a scrum in their own half and the ball was passed along the line to Craig Campbell who beat his opposite winger then rounded the full back on a 70 yard run to score under the posts. He converted the try to level the scores.
The Scorpions were playing with a lot more confidence now as their opponents lost their discipline.
A couple of cheap head high shots should have been more punishable than just a penalty. But Campbell took his own retribution by slotting over the penalties to give the Scorpions a lead of 10-6.
Campbell scored another try in the corner but the referee penalised the Scorpions for obstruction in the move leading up to the try.
In the final ten minutes the Bulls threw everything at the Scorpions but the defence was magnificent as they held on for a valuable two points and revenge for the Bulls win at Blackpool.
