I NOTE that Simon Kularatne, deputy director of tourism and leisure at Fylde Borough Council, said: "We can't freeze everything and must move with the times."
I wonder if he's heard of the expression: "If it's not broken, don't fix it?"
The "modernisation" of St Annes Square is ugly, cheap and nasty, unfinished and is causing problems with skateboarders and people falling over. And I bet it cost an awful lot of money!
The attraction of many holiday resorts, for inhabitants and tourists alike, is their charm, history and ambience - admirably demonstrated by the comparatively modest Heritage Lottery grant to restore the cast iron water fountains on St Annes Promenade.
It would be good to see the area around Pleasure Island restored, refurbished and maintained -- and I'm sure a genuine farmers' market would bring the business into the town!
But please, let's not have "progress" at any cost.
