LEIGH, Atherton and Tyldesley pedestrians who received their winter bumps by slipping on snow or ice on pavements - will not be able to claim compensation off the council.
A number of people contacted the council enquiring about making claims following incidents involving slips and trips on snowy and icy footpaths.
But Wigan Council is not legally obliged to make pavements snow and ice free.
And a council spokesman said: "Our insurance section received a number of inquiries during the recent bad weather but only one concrete claim which is currently being investigated. We do not have a legal duty to keep pavements clear of snow and ice, though we do try to keep town centre pavements clear where possible.
"Our priorities in severe conditions are to keep main roads and bus routes open and to ensure access for emergency services.
"TV advertising campaigns may suggest otherwise but claims for compensation against the council are fully investigated and rigorously defended where appropriate."
