THE fire brigade has warned people not to try to carry blazing chip pans out of their house after an 80-year-old woman suffered burns in a fire at her home.
Mary Barrett was taken to Burnley General Hospital with burns to her face, neck and hands after the fire in Peace Street, Burnley, at 12.20pm yesterday. She was discharged after treatment.
The fire brigade said it appeared a chip pan caught fire and Mary was trying to carry it to the sink or out of the house when she was injured. A fire brigade spokesman said: "If you are going to tackle a chip pan fire the best way is to throw a damp cloth over the pan and get out."
