Hospice's £4,500 booster A WET and windy Bonfire Night could not put off Clitheroe folk from enjoying themselves and raising £4,500 for the East Lancashire Hospice Appeal into the bargain.
A cheque for the proceeds of the night was handed over to hospice chairman Geoff Braithwaite from the organisers of the bonfire spectacle, The Rotary Club of Ribblesdale, at the Old Post House Hotel, in Clitheroe.
Their efforts had been aided by other town organisations Clitheroe Lions, Rotoract, Round Table and Clitheroe Rotary.
Thousands of people turned out to watch the fireworks, which was jointly funded by Clitheroe's Castle Cement and Perry's Peugeot dealers.
"We were extremely grateful to both companies who each sponsored the event with £1,500, enabling us to give more to the hospice charity," said secretary of Ribblesdale Rotary Club Edwin Gretton.
