Crigglestone All Blacks 32 Blackbrook Bulldogs 16
THE Bulldogs' season of woe continued as they crashed out of the League Express BARLA National Cup at the hands of Pennine League Division One outfit Crigglestone.
A patched-up Brook line-up made the journey to Yorkshire for this second round tie and despite the unstinting efforts of half-backs Chris Ratcliffe and Ian Callaghan, the National Conference Division Two strugglers were always second best.
By the interval Crigglestone had raced into a 20-6 lead with two tries and four goals by livewire scrum-half Damien Horsley and a touchdown by loose-forward Stuart Godfrey,
Bulldogs' points came from a try by sub Steve Moss, converted by Callaghan.
A Mark Dickinson interception try from 90 yards out gave the visitors a flying start to the second period but the home side re-established their superiority with further touchdowns by forwards Chris Synott and Mark Spurr, and two more goals by the sure-footed Horsley.
To their credit though, Brook kept going to the bitter end and they gave the scoreline a more respectable look when Ratcliffe was awarded a well-deserved penalty try -- which he also converted -- five minutes from time after being obstructed as he followed through his own kick ahead.
