FROZEN pitches meant that only one of the St Helens Combination's scheduled Garswood Trophies Hospital Cup games got underway at the weekend.
This was the Penlake Juniors versus Shoe fourth round tie, but sadly this only lasted 20 minutes before the referee called a halt with the score at 1-1.
Bold Miners versus College St Helens and the third round tie between Pilkington A and Hammer never started. These will now take place on Saturday, February 3, kic- off 2pm.
In Saturday league games, the only two Premiership games played were a 6-0 home win for Gerard Arms over Junction with Mark Clancy hitting a brilliant hat-trick and John Williams, Ant Ledger and Paul Oakes also hitting the net.
John Odgen also hit three for Nutgrove in their 4-0 away success at East Sutton Labour, the other goal coming from Tony Jones.
In Division One Hardshaw did a 7-0 demolition job on Prescot Leisure Reserves with goals coming from Neil Connolly (3), Andy Doward, Anthony Jaundrill (2) and Dan Holtby.
Cowley Hill Park celebrated their first victory of the season with a 2-1 home win over Gerard Arms Reserves. Brian Hayes and Steve Bradley scored the Cowley Hill goals with Richie Harrison replying for Gerard.
All Division Two fixtures sadly fell by the wayside.
In the LCFA Intermediate Cup round four tie Sportsmans Athletic just went down 4-3 to Liverpool Old Boys League outfit Hillfoot Hey OB in a game worthy of all-round congratulations from the watching spectators.
Having gone down 2-0, Sportsmans pulled back level with goals from Gary Halsall and Martin Leigh but a later goal from Paul Wood was not quite good enough to claw back the two further goals from the home side but Sportsmans lads deserve a pat on the back for being such good ambassadors for St Helens Combination football.
The Lancs FA under-18s semi-final scheduled to be played at Robin Park, Wigan on Friday was also a victim of the weather, as was the Open Age Group One game at Warrington the previous Tuesday evening.
The under 18 semi-final is now scheduled for Friday, February 3, again at Robin Park, while the Warrington game was due to be played on Tuesday, January 23, again at Victoria Park, Warrington.
In the Sunday Division, all games fell foul of the weather.
