MEMBERS of SCARS (Sankey Canal Restoration Society) played host to the chief executive of the Waterways Trust, Roger Hanbury when he paid St Helens a visit earlier this month.
Formed in 1999, the Trust was set up to raise funds, develop waterway partnerships with other organisations and extend waterway regeneration, all of which would benefit the Sankey Canal restoration proposals.
During his visit, Roger was given a tour of Sankey Canal and was also introduced to the Mayors of St Helens and Warrington, Pat Robinson and Sheila Woodyatt and the deputy mayor of Halton, Christopher Loftus, whose boroughs the canal runs through.
The event finished with a presentation at the World of Glass and the launch of a display of photographs of the canal in the Sankey Suite.
