I SEE that £1 million in unpaid rents and council tax is being written off by Blackburn with Darwen Council (LET, January 10).
We then read (LET, January 13) that Hyndnurn Council is writing off £17,500 in overclaimed expenses by councillors -- although, apparently, it was claimed in good faith and not in a deliberate attempt to defraud.
I, on the other hand, a mere council tax payer, have had a reminder notice for unpaid council tax for the paltry sum of £147.61 which must be paid by January "to avoid further action."
I wonder if I wrote to the Government and told them it was not a deliberate move on my part to defraud the council, I would be let off paying. I doubt it.
