GRAEME Souness ran the rule over Rovers' Academy starlets last night as Rob Kelly's young guns drew 2-2 with Colchester in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup at Ewood.
Souness was an interested observer in the Jack Walker stand as Rovers raced into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 22 minutes.
But United then hit back to earn a replay at Layer Road next week thanks to a two-goal salvo from Lloyd Opara.
"They started really well but then dipped a bit," said Souness.
"But it's always an interesting exercise to watch the young lads in action."
Meanwhile, former Academy starlet David Dunn is being watched by Leeds United.
David O'Leary has had spies at a couple of Rovers' recent games with the England Under 21 skipper believed to be the centre of attention.
