COUNCIL workmen moved into Happy Mount Park this week to repair and upgrade the paddling pool.
It is hoped the work will be finished well in advance of the hot weather and the summer season so the resort's tourists and locals can make the most of the new facilities.
The City Council's Senior Operations Manager, who will be overseeing the project, explained that the work will ensure the original shape and features of the pool, built in 1924, will be retained.
However, the council will also be fitting a brand new state-of-the-art filtration and treatment system as well as carrying out other important work. It is hoped this blend of traditional style and modern technology will help breath new life into the currently redundant facility. Commenting on the project, the chair of the Happy Mount Park Management Board, Cllr John Fretwell, said: "We are delighted to see this important project get under way and very much look forward to enhancing the wide variety of facilities within the park in readiness for summer season."
