1905: The world's largest uncut diamond was found by Captain Wells as he strolled around the Premier Mine in South Africa. It weighed 1lb 4oz and was called the Cullinan. It was cleft by Jacob Asscher and gave birth to the largest cut diamond, the 530.2 carat "Star of Africa" which now adorns the British Royal Sceptre.
