CHRISTMAS is a dim and distant memory for most of us but the festive celebrations are continuing at St Mary's CE Primary School in Hawkshaw.
Youngsters are following the French tradition of marking the Christian festival of Epiphany.
With the help of the school's European French assistant, Melanie Gonzalez, the children have made crowns and will soon start baking cakes.
Melanie said: "In France, for the Epiphany and throughout January, we have a tradition where we eat 'the king's cake'
"It contains a surprise, an ornament is hidden inside. The person who finds the ornament is the king or queen. He or she elects a partner and both then wear a crown."
European culture has become a way of life for the village school in which many of the pupils have learnt to speak French through joining the school's Le Petit Club Francais.
The school achieved a major coup last year when they were given a European-funded French assistant for the second year running.
