ADAMS, makers of the world-famous Halls Mentholyptus, has had its achievements in energy efficiency recognised.
The company, a division of Pfizer and formerly known as Warner Lambert, has been awarded Energy Efficient Accreditation by the Institute of Energy.
Adams has received the accolade under the Institute's energy efficiency accreditation scheme which is managed by the National Energy Foundation.
This scheme enables achievements in the management and use of energy to be tangibly recognised through an award from this leading energy body.
Adams says the accreditation is achieved by meeting set standards which are appraised by independent experienced assessors.
The Dumers Lane factory is one of only 125 organisations in the UK and Ireland to have this prestigious award since it was launched in 1993.
These organisations have a combined energy bill approaching £1 billion.
Over the last two years Mr Bryn Webster, the energy and utilities manager at Adams, has been heading up various initiatives to make savings in energy and water usage.
As a result, the specific usages for electricity, boiler fuel, water and effluent have been reduced by 14.9 per cent, 22.6 per cent, 38.4 per cent and 39.8 per cent respectively.
In monetary terms, savings of £221,300 have been made over the two year period and emissions to atmosphere of carbon dioxide, the major contributor to global warming, have been reduced by 24 per cent.
