LEIGH police have issued a warning to local residents to be extra careful about home security following a number of house burglaries over the past fortnight .

The burglaries, occurred in the afternoon and evening periods. The worst hit neighbourhoods were Westleigh, Astley and the Leigh Road area (close to the infirmary).

There was no particular method of gaining entry in these burglaries as bodily force, an instrument of some kind or a full window being taken out were all used to gain entry.

The most consistent fact is that virtually all break-ins were at the rear of the house.
