PARENTS, former pupils and schoolchildren are being given the chance to give teachers who have helped shape their lives top marks.
The teaching awards, an independent charity, in partnership with BT kicked off its annual nomination period this year on Tuesday.
The aim of the nominations, which are also open to fellow staff, is to publicly acknowledge teachers who make a distinctive contribution to the classroom.
The nomination day was launched by TV's Cold Feet star James Nesbitt. He said: "Having teachers as parents I've seen the time, effort and pride that goes into the profession. It's a vocation that shapes the country's future and it doesn't always receive a fitting recognition."
To receive a nomination form log onto the awards web-site www.teachingawards.com and fill in the details or cut out coupons printed in the regional and national press. The deadline for completed nomination packs is March 14.
