PULLING pints at the Bongs Tavern should come naturally to landlady Anne Marie Rawlinson. She's following her family's licensed trade tradition now she and husband Royhave taken over as hosts at the pub opposite the public baths in Castle Street, Tyldesley. Anne-Marie used to live on the opposite corner of Castle Street when her parents Brian and Rita Trowbridge ran the Butcher's Arms. "We lived at the Butcher's (recently converted into a night club) when the Tavern was called the King's Arms. Moving back is exciting, it's almost like going home," smiled Anne-Marie, who has left her role as assistant manager at the town's Bar One Ten to manage one of the biggest and oldest pubs in town.
The Rawlinsons, with husband Roy enjoying life on the other side of the bar, aim to promote a friendly atmosphere for regular customers and regular live bands for music fans. Anne-Marie, whose brother Michael is a licensee in Weymouth, added: "Pubs must run in our blood, my mum and dad pop-in regularly to keep an eye on things." And having spent several years living and working in the Mediterranean sun on Majorca she's helping bring a touch of warmth to a Tyldesley winter.
