I RECEIVE many envelopes from the council, Government and non-government organisations and businesses. The envelope is usually right for the document.
But the Bury MBC Environment Forum postings are always in heavy-duty envelopes far too large for the letter. If its one sheet it could be in an A5 or A4 envelope. This morning it was three sheets unfolded in an A4 heavy-duty self-seal envelope. A typical 110 mm by 220 mm envelope would have done!
Even with the council's buying power it seems reasonable to assume that more expensive envelopes will always be more expensive and cheaper envelopes will always be cheaper.
In my view, slipping three unfolded sheets into an A4 envelope is just as costly in time as folding them for an appropriate envelope. Smaller envelopes are easier to frank and in certain instances save on postage too. Using envelopes which are too large is wasting resources from the trees cut down or the waste paper pulp used through transportation costs and storage costs at the town hall.
In short, it seems that the Bury MBC Environment Forum is behaving without proper regard to sustainable development and waste. Environment and Wildlife challenge the council to do better.
