TWO men were being questioned by police today after a teenage girl told officers she had been raped in a town centre nightclub.
The 16-year-old is believed to have been taken from the dancefloor area into an upstairs room at the Genesis nightspot in Burnley before being raped and indecently assaulted early yesterday.
Police went to the club after the incident was reported straight away and arrested two local men. They searched the building and are studying CCTV tapes taken in the Hammerton Street club during the evening.
Steve Dennis, a director of club owners Luminar Leisure Ltd said police attended Genesis at about 2.15am on Friday.
He added: "Two men were apprehended at that time following an allegation of an indecent assault earlier that evening at the venue.
"Staff co-operated fully with the investigation, offering the CCTV tapes and allowing officers to undertake an examination of the venue"
He went on: "No incidents were reported during the busy Thursday 1970s night.
"The atmosphere was friendly in a venue well known for a safe environment."
The club, formerly known as Mean Cat Daddies, was open as normal last night.
