CUSTOMERS who gave donations when a repair shop carried out small jobs for free helped raise £240,000 for the NSPCC's Full Stop Campaign.
Over the past 20 months, Timpson, the nationwide key repair shop and engraving chain has offered small repairs free of charge giving any donations to charity. In Burnley customers gave £669.72.
Chairman and chief executive John Timpson has been a foster carer for more than 20 years and personally doubled the first £50,000 that was raised.
He said: "The Burnley team proved time and again that customers really appreciate good service. That is clearly apparent from the generous donations offered by customers in recognition of the quality service they received. As a foster carer for more than 20 years I have witnessed first hand the awful damage wrought upon the abused child.
"It makes me all the more grateful, therefore, to my wonderful staff and indeed to our Burnley customers for their big-hearted response to our campaign on behalf of the NSPCC."
