THE horror death of Pendle's favourite pot-bellied pig has provoked an overwhelming response from the people of Barrowford who have raised hundreds of pounds in a bid to catch his killer and ensure no such incidents occur again.
A collection at Barrowford Post Office has already raised £360 and money is still rolling in.
The cash will help pay for security at the farm at Pendle Heritage Centre where Squeak, a Vietnamese pig, was battered to death with a wooden stake on New Year's Eve. It will also include a £100 reward to catch Squeak's killers.
Campaigner Cath Collis Tattersall, of Pasture Lane, Barrowford, said: "I am grateful to the people who have stood up over this incident and the response has been overwhelming. If money keeps coming we could end up with around £500.
"The phone calls have been flooding in with people coming up with the same names of people who they believe to be involved in the attack but the police have said they need more evidence before they can arrest someone."
Scruples Menswear in Gisburn Road has offered a free pair of boots as part of the reward to catch the killer as well as offering a cheque towards the security and a Barrowford resident has offered to install the security lights free of charge.
