TRANSPORT police have condemned vandals who hurled what they described as "Molotov cocktails" at a passing train last night.
Four fire bombs hit the Trans-Pennine express from Blackpool North to Scarborough at around 6.50pm as it approached Accrington station.
Two bottles with tapers were found unexploded by the driver at the side of the tracks when he stopped the train to investigate but when officers later searched for them they had gone.
PC Keith Holmes slammed the incident as "mindless."
He said: "This was very dangerous. If any article goes through a train cab window it could cause serious injuries but if it was a burning article it would be far worse."
Nobody was injured and the train was slightly damaged.
