IT was all right on the night for fundraiser Philip Gardner when six wooden horses stepped in to save his bacon.
Philip, 40, of St John's Road, Padiham, thought a charity night at the Shakespeare pub, in Wytham Street, Padiham, would end in disaster when an entertainment company who failed to deliver a set of pig racing videos.
Philip paid £117.50 for the videos, which were to be part of an event to help raise £2,500 for charity Scope.
Philip said he phoned Talent Entertainments just hours before the event and was told they had been dispatched. But at 8pm there was still no sign. Quick thinking Philip called on his mate, Andrew Robinson, who plays for Padiham Cricket Club, to lend him the club's own racing alternative -- six wooden horses, a 10ft long table and two dice.
Philip said: "People were leaving disappointed when they realised the pig racing wasn't on. We were thankful for the people who did stop. In the end it was a really good night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."
Philip said he had since been informed of a problem with the courier service and Talent Entertainments were hoping to compensate the charity. Talent Entertainments were not available for comment.
