THE remarks of anyone pontificating on the use of English would carry more weight if the writer showed himself able to differentiate between 'infer' and 'imply.'

By advising Mr A Walmsley to switch off if he disapproves of bad language on television, Graham Aspin (Letters, January 10), implies that bad language on television is a good thing, from which I infer that Mr Aspin has no regard for common decency.
