PLANS to erect a banqueting pavilion to replace the existing marquee at the Inn at Whitewell, near Dunsop Bridge, and which had been recommended for refusal by the borough council's planning officers, have been withdrawn from consideration.
Members of the Ribble Valley planning committee agreed with the officers that the glass and stone structure with a curved, hipped design roof, and the proposed stone reception, would erode the character and specific interest of the listed hotel.
They felt that by virtue of its design, particularly its roof, the proposal would be detrimental in the area of outstanding natural beauty in which the hotel is situated.
Also withdrawn from planning consideration was an application to renew temporary consent for the retention of the marquee until January 2003.
It had been originally granted on appeal in March 1997, following an enforcement notice.
The owner's intention was to trade for a further two season in order to finance the scheme for its replacement.
This application had also been earmarked for refusal.
