A CERTIFICATE scheme is to be launched in the Ribble Valley to thank volunteers.

The Ribble Valley Volunteering Development Project has come up with the scheme to recognise and celebrate all the work done by volunteers in all areas of the community, and has the backing of Ribble Valley Mayor Coun Chris Holtom.

Volunteering Development officer Helen Barton-Hanson said: "We really want to highlight the value of unpaid work and encourage appreciation of the contribution made by volunteers.

"We also feel that a certificate, which shows that a person has done a specific number of hours in voluntary work, will be attractive to potential employers."

The scheme is open to anyone who either lives in the Ribble Valley or does their voluntary work here. Volunteers will be asked to keep a diary of their work. Certificates will be awarded on completion of 25, 50, 100 or 200 hours.

The Mayor will present the first certificates. Anyone interested in getting involved should speak to their volunteer manager or contact Helen at the Volunteering Development Project on 01200 422721.
