LEE Briscoe has suffered a new setback and will not make a comeback in Burnley's game at Crewe on Saturday.

Manager Stan Ternent had hoped the left back would play in the reserve clash tonight at Barnsley to put him in contention for a starting place at Gresty Road.

But the Clarets boss has confirmed that Briscoe, who has had a ten week lay-off following a gashed-knee and a hamstring strain, has once more injured his hamstring in training and will not be fit.

"I had hoped he would get a run out in the reserves tonight but it's not going to happen," said the Burnley chief.

"He tweaked his hamstring in training. I wanted him for this weekend so it is a setback."

Meanwhile Micky Mellon, who is suspended for this Saturday's match along with defender Ian Cox, is staying at home as he has come down with a bout of chicken pox.

"We're keeping him away from the club at the moment," confirmed Ternent.

The Burnley second string have a relatively strong squad making the trip to Oakwell tonight for the Avon Insurance Premier League match.

"I will give Ian Cox a run out because players need to be playing who cannot play at the weekend along with Lennie Johnrose and John Mullin. It is a decent squad," added the Burnley boss.

Goalkeeper Paul Crichton, John Boardman, Gordon Armstrong, Brad Maylett are also included in tonight's team.
