RAMSBOTTOM 2 CLITHEROE 2

(after extra time)

RAMSBOTTOM and Clitheroe will have to do it all again on Wednesday night after extra-time couldn't separate them in the Worthington Challenge Trophy first round clash.

The game between the two NWCL Division One promotion-chasers, already postponed a number of times because of the weather, finally went ahead at the Riverside.

And it looked to have paid off for Ken Bridge's side when they raced into a two goal lead.

Russell Brierley netted his 19th goal of the season three minutes after the interval when he converted a penalty following a Clitheroe hand ball.

Nine minutes later, Darren Bowman made it two when he raced into the area and fired low into the corner of the net.

But there's no stopping Clitheroe hot shot Lee Cryer who scored two identical goals to take his own tally for the season to 19 goals.

The poacher pounced in the six yard box twice, firing the ball home from close range in the 63rd and 69th minute.

The game went into extra-time as both sides strove to secure the win but they'll have to fight it out again at Shawbridge on Wednesday, ko 7.45pm.

Accrington Stanley are playing UniBond First Division side Kendal Town in a friendly at the Crown Ground tonight (kick off 7.30pm).

Struggling Stanley, who last week released defender Wayne Maddock and striker Paddi Wilson, arranged the game because they didn't have a match at the weekend. Admission to the game is free.
