A NEW way of learning using the "information superhighway" was being officially launched in Pendle today.
The area's first "learndirect" workshop is based in Nelson and Colne College's DISC (Drop In Skills Centre) centre at Linden Road Business Centre, Colne. Learndirect allows people to learn new skills using the internet and learning centres.
The aim is to make learning easy and convenient.
Learndirect manager Peter Maltby said: "Everyone has endless commitments these days and it isn't always easy to make time for a regular class. This is a new internet-based learning option, which allows individuals to study at their convenience a range of programmes designed by the University of industry.
"Some people may be happy to study at home - or even in the workplace as many of the learning options are based around work-related skills - but DISC is a recognised learndirect centre where students can access computers and the relevant website.
"It is ideal for people who don't have a computer at home or who are net novices who would benefit from some help from trained staff."
All courses are eligible for funding under the Government's Individual Learning Account scheme.
