REGARDING the problem Stan Ternent had with the referee at Scunthorpe, he is not on his own -- Graeme Souness also has.
It would seem that a real problem exists that can adversely affect the outcome of matches, to the detriment of the game on the whole.
If I was a referee, I would expect to have to withstand aggro from managers, players and fans after the game is over.
The £9 an hour that referees are paid is a pittance compared with managers' and players' salaries.
There is a strong case for implementation of an upgrade of standards in refereeing while increasing their remuneration to attract the proper candidates for this responsible position.
