SOCCER: Bury were hammered 3-0 by Chesterfield at Gigg Lane last night in the LDV Vans Trophy norther quarter finals.
For the second game in succession Bury were two goals adrift within a matter of 10 minutes. Marcus Ebdon hit the first then Lawrie Dudfield waltzed through the Shakers defence only minutes later.
Ebdon got his second from the penalty spot before the interval.
Bury held out until moments before half time when keeper Paddy Kenny brought down Ryan Williams in the box , allowing Ebdon to net his second from the spot. The first half show from Bury was as poor as many seasoned Shakers spectators can remember, and the air of relegation is becoming as palpable as the popular Chicken Balti pies ! Bury put up a better show in the second half, though clearly Chesterfield had taken their foot of the gas, and at times played games with the hapless Shakers. The only plus points for Bury were the showings of teenagers Chris Armstrong, Lee Connell, and second half substitute Nicky Hill.
The senior players were once again less than committed, and are, in the eyes of the fans, a disgrace to the Bury shirt, and about whom no tears will be shed when their contracts are up in the summer.
