A 12-YEAR-OLD boy underwent an operation to insert two pins in his leg after he was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver in Leigh town centre.
Thomas Wilson was run over on a pedestrian crossing in Chapel Street at 6.15pm on Tuesday after a driver ignored a red light.
The driver of the car stopped, got out and looked at the injured boy before driving off.
The vehicle, a G-registered grey metallic Ford Fiesta, also had two passengers inside.
Thomas, of Bond Street, Leigh, was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital with a fractured femur.
His condition is stable after undergoing surgery on Wednesday.
A pupil at St Josephs Primary School, Thomas plays rugby for Leigh RMI under 10s.
